The sculptor, Louis H. Nicot was born in Rennes on February 12, 1878. He disappeared in 1944, possibly in a Nazi concentration camp. He studied at the Rennes School of Fine Arts and the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris, and was runner-up in the Prix Chenavard. He was an Associate of the Artistes Francais and won many prizes, including a first class medal and the Prix Hors Concours. He sculpted many war memorials in the early 1920s and exhibited at the Salon des Independents from 1906 to 1912, and the Salon d'Automne in 1922. He was a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honeur and an Officer de l'Instruction Publique. His minor sculpture includes busts and figures of boxers and other sportsmen. |
