| Charlotte Sorre |
| (American, Contemporary ) |
Charlotte Sorré is one of the pre-eminent animal painters working today.
After spending many years painting portraits of people, she has returned to her
first love, horses and dogs. The artist's affection for animals was evident from
an early age when she grew up in the Pacific Northwest, in Washington State. She
got her first puppy at the age of five, an Australian Shepherd mix which she doted over, but it was when she was given her first horse, that she truly
fell in love: "I was always in love with animals," she states "and
when I met Topsy, she was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen." Topsy
was to be her first of many horses, and the artist became an avid rider.
Charlotte studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts, and The Art Students'
League in New York, and later at the École Albert Dufois-Vihiers in France.
Her work is characterized by an attention to detail a rich, colorist palette.
She has an uncanny ability to capture in oils the true nature of an animal.
“Charlotte has an uncanny ability to capture the anatomy and individual
expression of our animals - she is among the best.”
